DEBUT Graduate Lilit Markosyan Featured in Gemma Magazine

Advanced Fashion Design Graduate Lilit Markosyan, a 2017 DEBUT designer, is the Creative Director and Fashion Designer of Lilit Markosyan Designs, specializing in evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and dressy separates. The designer, who has a showroom and atelier in Glendale, California, was featured in an interview with Gemma Magazine where she spoke about her self-titled collection, attending FIDM, and her creative process. 

Raised in Armenia, Lilit first presented her collection of evening gowns at DEBUT 2017, and later showed at El Paseo Fashion Week in Palm Springs, California. With a desire to create wearable works of art that make women feel more confident, the entrepreneur offers her clients custom made evening, bridal, and red carpet gowns with couture elements. 

"My creative process starts with the visual idea of what I’d like to create,” she told Gemma Magazine. “As the concept develops, I start thinking of what fabric to use, and most of the time, I design my material by hand beading, embroidering, or appliquéing the structure, so I create one of a kind fabric to use in my design.” She said she finds inspiration everywhere from nature and architecture to art and music. 

She credits FIDM for providing her with “priceless” knowledge and experience. As one of 10 Advanced Fashion Design Students selected to show at DEBUT, Lilit designed a collection that was seen by thousands of people. “I had the honor to have the legendary John Swiatek, Nancy Riegelman, and Carlos Vazquez as my mentors and professors along with other great industry professionals for which I am very, very thankful,” she said.

“FIDM taught me discipline, which is one of the core traits in the fashion industry.”
